I’m sitting out on my patio this evening and feel my flower gardens ready to burst forth. I actually mowed my backyard today!

It’s so satisfying to me when I’m done and admiring the neatly mown area.

The sky is now beginning to glow a warm yellow as the sun drops closer to the horizon and I am relishing the sounds of the numerous birds songs and my pup chewing on a big bone.

Spring IS Expansive.

There’s hope in the air. The hope of warmer weather, hope for the return to bike riding, baseball and walks with ice cream cones, the hope of growth, rebirth, and fresh starts.

Expansion is everywhere now that winter is behind us.

Buds are expanding to the point of bursting open. Billions of new leaves are unfurling and bringing a softness to the scenery. Chicks hatch from their eggs and the list goes on.

But expansion isn’t just limited to the spring season.

Your whole life is about expansion and growth.

The Universe is constantly expanding and supporting your expansion and growth at the same time.

Obviously, your physical body grows in miraculous ways from the time you were born, but consider this, your soul growth doesn’t ever stop growing!

But have you ever had a setback? (Silly question, right?)

A job that was lost or taken away? A relationship that ended? The death of a beloved one?

During those times it sure feels like time stops and we can get stuck asking “Why did this happen?” Where is the expansion in all of that??

When I was attempting to land my first teaching job, I applied for an elementary teaching position in my home school district. It was the school I had attended for 12 years and had coached high school volleyball in for 5 years. I had done my student teaching and been a long term sub and, at that time my mother was a longtime member of the school board!

It was a sure thing in my mind…and I didn’t get the job. I couldn’t believe it!

I experienced angry, disbelief, indignation, and eventually utter disappointment. My mind couldn’t wrap itself around this rejection.

But, I learned later that the Universe is all about expansion and growth. If only I had known that at the time.

It was not a setback at all.  It was the set up for my very successful teaching career in one of the top school districts in the state.

I coached for over 20 years. I taught thousands of 13-year-olds. I was even awarded “Teacher of the Year”.  But I had to experience that hometown door slamming in my face so I would move to a different town and ultimately create the life I was meant to have.

It really comes down to perception.

What if your setback is really your greatest SETUP?

What if the Universe is preparing you for something even better than you can imagine?

It’s happening all the time and in every situation.

People get cancer and say it’s the best thing that ever happened to them.

A relationship ends because the Universe has something better for you.

Being laid off from a job unexpectedly gives you the gift of time freedom to explore new things and maybe even go back to school?

The possibilities are unlimited.

But you will crash if you are driving forward while looking in the rearview mirror.

In other words, shift your perception of your situation and find the expansion, the growth, and the learning!

The “What if’s” and “If only’s hold you back, stop expansion and quite frankly, make life miserable!

Remember these little yet powerful truths:

  • All is well.
  • You are exactly where you are supposed to be.
  • It’s going to be okay.

The more that you trust that the Universe has your back, the more you will see setbacks as a whole lot more interesting and expanding.
